The impact

Because cleft repair surgery is not covered under Pakistanā€˜s overburdened public health care system, thousands of children grow to adulthood with this condition untreated. Due to the way they look, these children are often subjected to ridicule.

Young girls growing up with the stigma of cleft lip and cleft palate are often depressed and perform poorly in schools and colleges. Their dream of getting a better marriage proposal remains a dream for them. Many suffer from ear, nose and throat infections as well as depression and malnutrition. Most of the time, a single operation is not sufficient to resolve all effects of cleft and comprehensive care is required.

Cleft Pakistan offers the different necessary types of surgeries, performed by the experienced surgeons and anaesthetists at Al Mustafa Medical Center, Gulshan Iqbal, Karachi. Cleft Pakistan provides a continous training program in the form of seminars, sympoisa and workshops. The senior surgeon, Prof. Ganatra, attends meetings and workshops internationally and imparts training to juniors after coming back. Therefore, we can offer high quality and safe treatments and thereby change the life of our patients for the better.
